Relocating with Children

Having personally experienced the trauma of relocating "with children" several times, I hope you will find the following suggestions helpful. These ideas are drawn from both my readings an experience.

One of the first places to go is your local library. Here are a few of the books I came across that help children understand just what is happening are listed below. Your librarian may be able to suggest others. Browse through whatever books are available, you know better than anyone else which ones will prove to be "age appropriate" for your children.

Books:

Alexander, who's Not (Do you hear me?) Going to move - Judith Viorst, Atheneum Books

The Berenstain Bears Moving Day - stan and Jay Berenstain, Random House

A House for Hermit Crab - Eric Carrle, Picture Book Studio

Ira Says Goodbye - Bernard Waber, Houghton Mifflin Co.

Kids Travel: A Backseat Survival Guide - From the Editors of Klutz Press

The Moving Book: A Kids' Survival Guide - Gabriel Davis, Little, Brown and Co.

Oh, The Places You'll Go - Dr. Seuss, Random House
